How do motors (In general) work?
I am planning on constructing a motor for a large fan used for a fan boat.
I want to know what gives a motor more power, more torque, and more RPM.
I want to now do longer motors give more torque while while wider (more diameter) motors give more rpm.

The length is for convenience and the width is for strength. The way a motor works is by alternating magnet polarities. The only way to get more power is to increase the amount of charge (strength) of the magnets in the motor (by increasing the size of the magnet and amount of electricity going to it). Be warned the wires will have to be upgrade to handle the new current and the turning shaft will have to be strengthened to handle the increased centripetal force. Now if you are talking about a engine then it functions by compressing air and gas then igniting it with a spark (combustion). The only way to get more power is to increase the amount of gas and compressed air (in other words the size of the compression shaft), but be warned that it must be stronger to withstand the explosion.
PS DO NOT CHANGE THE SIZE OR SHAPE OF THE ROD FOR YOUR MOTOR OR ENGINE AS THIS DOES NOT CHANGE POWER OR RPM AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.
