Wheelchair Weight Limits
Wheelchair food cravings?
I was recently placed into a wheelchair after hurting my leg. I'm only going to be in it for another week or so and then I'll start therapy. Prior to my injury I was slowly but surely losing weight and working out all the time. For some reason though, recently not being able to work out and limited to the chair, I find myself with a larger appetite and crazy cravings. I really don't want to revert backwards...but I also don't know how much longer I can fight myself on the whole food thing.
I know this is a weird question/situation...but does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think if I have a day or two where I splurge a bit I'll instantly gain weight?

Go for foods that are high in fiber and fill you up without a lot of calories- celery, carrots, almonds, apples, rice snacks, etc. Drink a lot of liquids, etc.
Another good trick is to eat a lot of small meals- hit flavor hard by adding heat or crunch, etc.
Then, of course, burn as many calories as you can- wheeling uphill, swimming, etc.

Is there a specific diet for the disabled who can't really exercise ?
I sustained an on-the-job injury a few years ago and have been left with very limited ambulation with a walker. I am confined primarily to a wheelchair and cannot really exercise. Needless to say losing weight has become a huge problem in that the additional weight makes me more disabled and the more disabled I become the less I am able to exercise.
I was thinking of trying the South Beach Diet
. Is there a specific diet for the disabled who can't really exercise ?
