IWAS Wheelchair Rugby EC 2009 - Final, Part 1
Will the 2008 Paralympic games be on TV in the US?
If so when, what channel, and will wheelchair rugby be featured?
As far as we know, there will be no coverage in the U.S. of the Beijing Summer Paralympic Games. We do know that paralympicsport.tv will be featuring game coverage on the web.
We are very frustrated by the lack of coverage in the United States for disabled sports. That said, we have been working to change this.
Our company, Never Dull Productions (www.neverdullproductions.com), is putting up a one-hour show on ESPNU in September about the 2008 Paralympic World Cup Games which took place in Manchester, England in May. Produced by the BBC, the program features many of the world's top elite athletes with disabilities in the sports of Swimming, Cycling, Wheelchair Basketball and Track & Field. U.S. athletes featured include Jeff Skiba, April Holmes and the U.S. Men's Wheelchair Basketball team. South African swimmer Natalie de Toit, the first amputee to compete in both the Olympics and Paralympics is also featured in the program. There will be three airings of the program on September 2, 5 and 9.
As far as we know, this will be the only Paralympic-related sports programming showing in the U.S. as the Beijing Paralympics begin on September 6. So, at least in a small way, U.S.television audiences will be able to see what Paralympic sports are all about.
A video promo is available and can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMKWhg81KlY.
We are planning more disabled sports programming for the United States with various ESPN platforms in the future.
