Wheelchair Ramps For Vans
Im going to look at a Used Van tomorrow and would like some advice.?
I am looking at a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 101K miles on it for $7500.00.
This is a specialty van with special adaptions for my Fiance who is in a wheelchair to drive ( Ramp, Kneels down, Hand Control ).
Car Gurus what should I be looking for? spark plugs wear and tear anything you know I should be wary of? Any advice is appreciated.

NOOOO they are terrible some of the worst on the market bad bad BAD Sorry but I hate to see anyone drive those they are Junk PLEASE look for something els., I have seen tons of them on the side of the roads and in used car lots and the salesmen I have talked to said they are unreliable with many problems check out the consumer digest on repair histories.

How easily would a Volkswagen Type 2 be to mod for a wheelchair?
Does it have a side door like a van? I've always wanted one, and I am in a wheelchair and need hand controls and a ramp for entering my car.
I forgot to mention, my lisence says automatic transmition only.I have to use hand controls..:(
It might be possible with the late model type 2's, but I'd recommend against it. The automatic tranmission is weak in the type 2's and there is a general lack of horsepower unless the engine is heavily modified. Besides this, it lacks general safety features that more modern vehicles have and isn't all that economical either. Items like almost no heat, poor winshield defroster, bus like driving position and almost no frontal crash protection are majour problems with a type 2.
VW had a programme that gave a discount for a EuroVan purchase if it was going to be converted to a disabled driver vehicle. Chrysler had a programme for years that allowed a discount on a vehicle purchase and conversion; I don't know if the programme still exists or not.
I'm not saying that it cannot be done; what I am suggesting is that before you comitt to such a conversion, you think long and hard about whether this something you can live with day in and day out.
