Wheelchair Easy Is it easy for wheelchair users to get around the French Quarters?
I've been doing a little research about New Orleans French Quarter and I was wondering how easy is it for someone in a wheelchair to get around. Is there alot of hills? How about when the parades are on? Access into bars, clubs, restaurants, etc. Google and the Discovery Channel can only do so much before you need someones personal experience.
Well, I can tell you.
My fiance is in a wheelchair, and we go to New Orleans all the time. There are no hills at all in south Louisiana, and most bars and restaurants (if not all) are completely wheelchair accessible. You may have some issues on Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras, but only because the street is so crowded that even people who walk have issues getting around. And since my man is in a wheelchair, even when I go to NOLA without him, I still pay attention like,"If I come here with Kenneth, will he have issues getting in?" Well... After 5 years together, its mostly habit, lol. Maybe the only issue you'll have is getting over some curbs by the roads, especially in the Garden District. As much money as those houses cost, the roads are HORRIBLE.

Pull on elastic cords or bands. Hook them up to your doorknob, railing, table leg, or bed post. There are lots of different ways to pull on a band. Push overhand, push underhand, punching motion, pulling underhand, pulling overhand, etc. Lift & toss a weighted ball as well.
