Wheelchair Accessible Homes

Tell me how to motivate my town to help a family in need?
A single dad of 5 young boys has Lou Gehrig's disease here in my town. I want to help him make his home wheelchair accessible and to help in other ways. The Dad is very attentive to his boys going to ball games and such. I want to give the boys some great memories with Dad before he looses the ability to live at home and of course before he dies.
I need help from my town though...How do I motivate them to help? I live in a town of about 7,000
First of all, kudos to you for your compassion and determination to lend a helping hand. The world needs more people like you!
My suggestion would be to go see someone at your local newspaper and make a personal appeal for them to write a story.(Or try a local radio station). That usually creates enough awareness to generate financial support.
You could also go to a local contractor and appeal to them to consider donating their services to your cause (it could give them great publicity if your local paper runs the story, or at the very least good word-of-mouth publicity). If they won't donate their service, they might at least offer to do at a reduced rate. In any case, get a rough estimate of what it could cost and, if all else fails, maybe start a door-to-door campaign. You should have a picture of the family, ideally of all six of them, to bring along. Explain plainly why they need help, how this misfortune could've happened to anyone, how much it would cost and how they can contribute (e.g. if it costs $14,000, you could say "if everyone in town gave just two dollars, we can do it! I know you wouldn't let a neighbor down and I hope I can count on your support. How much can you afford to donate?") Enlist some friends as volunteers and maybe approach each home as a team. Kids make great fundraisers because they're cute and hard to say no to.
Otherwise, if you're religious, you could ask your pastor/priest to encourage the congregation to lend support.
That's how I would reach people, now as to how to motivate and convince them the best way is to be transparent and sincere. You obviously believe that this family deserves help, say it in your own words, with your genuine conviction and others will be convinced too.
Finally, please make sure that this man you're trying to help is ok with you publicizing his situation (assuming it's not already common knowledge) because some people are very sensitive about their privacy.
Good luck!
If you let me know more details, I would be glad to send you a cheque to get you started.

What type of man would you prefer?
ONE: An emotive one, who loves cuddling, hasn't graduated college but is going on to do an Automotive certificate to become a qualifier mechaninc. He still lives with his parents and his best friend acts like a pirate.
TWO: The busy guy, who's great in bed and has graduated with an AA degree. He was an electrical designer and is now working for an architectural firm. He has his own home, but it's years and thousands of dollars beyond repair.
THREE: A Christian guy who has a BA in science and works in a well paying job. He runs a local college and career class at church and his friends also share the Christian attitudes. He has his own place and hopes to soon build a more accessible home as he's currently in a wheelchair.
Which would you prefer to get to know, and list three reasons why?
oh goodness woman thats difficult. couldnt i rearrange the characteristics around?
:
I would choose either one or two.
if i chose one the reasons would be...
1. i love emotive, sensitive (and he is attractive right?) men. they are rare finds. im such a touchy feely person and i love to cuddle and just lay together or play around with each other. this guy sounds like he would be great match emotionally for me and we might have a great connection. the pirate thing is kind of weird but it could be funny. he sounds like a genuine type of person and unique.
2. im young and a junior in college so his economic standing isn't too important right now but seeing as ill be going into law he would have to get his work life together so that the gap between the amount on our paychecks wouldn't be too severe. i dont mind making more money but im not going to financially support him. if i dont feel a strong bond then the relationship wouldnt last too long. however, being so young there is still time for me to help him or perhaps give him the support and encouragement to excel in his career so he could catch up with me financially.
3. sometimes if we dwell on the superficial details we may miss out on someone who could compliment us perfectly and fill our lives with happiness and just satisfaction with the one we love. i also think that if two people are in love and equally ambitious (which he would have to be or become) they can achieve great things together and that bond of love can be so much stronger if you choose someone because of whats on the inside instead of their bank account or something. having said that...this is ideology. i dont know if i could date a guy who wasnt in school AND lived at home. he would have to have an AMAZING personality and our connection would have to be very intense.
if i chose the second one well the reasons are clear
1. good job
2. great in bed
3. has his own place
the logical side would tell me to choose number two. however, more often than not (and against my better judgment) i choose love despite the logistics. so in all honesty i would choose one.
the third is out of the question for me. im quite the agnostic and i dont think i could date a devout christian and maintain my sanity. cant stand those types...
