Is it okay to bring luggage on the Metro in Barcelona?
I need the cheapest way to get from the airport to Catalunya Plaza. I will have1 medium-sized bag with wheels, and 1 carry-on size bag stacked on top. I don't know if the Metro can accomodate a person with bags, or if I have to negotiate stairs. There will be 2 of us, and we are not familiar with using subways. Thank you in advance.
Yes it is OK to bring bags,just try to stand near the doors as they open and close quite fast.We have got a lot of tourism and I see people with luggage all the time.But depending on the time it can be quite busy so make sure you don´t leave it unattended.Almost all the stations have got escalators,apart from some stops on the old lines,so it won´t be a problem.Plaça Catalunya has got escalators!
Actually if you take the train from the airport,it also stops in Plaça Catalunya,so you don´t need to exchange wagons.

What size and kind of carry-on is best for any overhead storage bin?
I'm doing a little international travel, but also a lot of domestic (US) travel. I pack very light and have typically just used a simple little duffle bag with everything I need. Now I'm traveling overseas for the first time and want something possibly sturdier to protect anything I bring back, but will fit on carryon.
Are wheeled carry-on bags preferred? Or should I get a wheeled duffle bag? Will either of these fit easily into overhead storage on, say, a 747 and smaller if I get a 22 inch size?

It's a duffle, so maybe if it is a tight fit it'll bend a little, but not to much to damage any valuables inside.
I'm used to carrying my bag on my shoulder, but wheels are probably ok. My biggest worry is that it won't fit into carry-on.
Also, are there are any good, inexpensive wheel-less carry-on duffle bags out there? I don't mind carrying my stuff to be extra mobile up and down stairs, etc.
JW, it may be easier to squeeze duffles into tight spots since most of them don’t have a hard frame, but the organization offered by a wheeled suitcase is much better. Besides, they are a lot more convenient to transport. I would definitely suggest you go for a wheeled suitcase from a trustworthy brand, especially if you are going to be traveling a lot.
