Used Wheelchair Van what do i need to do to report my van damaged by a water pipe breaking?
i live in from of a park and 2 days ago a pipe busted from the park and flooded our whole street on saturday night. sunday morning, we all awoke to about 10 cars, including my van that i use to transport my 10 year old son to school and he's in a wheelchair, frozen into about 10inches of ice. the van had to be towed the next day to the mechanic and probably is damaged due to the flood and then the ice. i want to file a report or something so that the city of chicago can pay to get my van fixed. i'm not sure what to do to do that. if anyone can help me and advise what steps to take, it would be appreciated.
i feel sorry for you in adelaide australia about 16yrs ago pipe busted destroyed a house and noone paid up

Brake van and guards van are terms used mainly in the UK and Australia for a railway vehicle equipped with a hand brake which can be applied by the guard. The equivalent North American term is caboose but a British brake van and a caboose are very different in appearance because the former usually has only four wheels while the latter usually has bogies. Many British freight trains formerly had no continuous brake so the only available brakes were those on the locomotive and the brake van. Because of this shortage of brake power the speed was restricted to 25 mph. In the 21st century, brake vans are rare, because freight trains now have continuous air brakes, but they can still be seen on heritage railways. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Fortress of Van also known as Van Citadel is a massive stone fortification built by the ancient kingdom of Urartu, overlooking Tushpa, the Urartu Capital. It is the largest example of this kind of complex. A number of similar fortifications were built throughout the Urartian kingdom, usually cut into hillsides and outcrops in places where modernday Armenia, Turkey and Iran meet. The lower parts of the wall were built out of unmortared basalt, while the rest was built from mudbricks. Such fortresses were used for regional control, rather than as a defense against foreign armies. The ruins of this fortress sit outside the modern city of Van, where they support walls built in the medieval era. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. I applied for a grant. My application was accepted within a week. I'm not sure if it's real or not.?
I applied for a $50,000 Govt. Grant The Grant was for a wheelchair van. I was called and told that I was to receive a Grant for $120,000. The money was to be used for a van, to pay bills, get out of debt or even buy a house. The Government just wants me out of debt. All I need to do is pay a writers fee of almost $500. Is this the real thing or is it a scam. I'm not sure what to think. I have until Fri. to come up with the money.
SCAM -- ignore it, avoid it and do not ever believe in it
1 - The government NEVER calls people that there are grant monies available to them
2 - There is no such thing as grant to pay bills, otherwise NO ONE in America will have any debt at all because they will just get government grant to pay off their debt
I hope you did not give any personal and financial information. You may also want to read the warnings FTC has issued against these "grant" companies:
Here is also one of the warnings issued by the Better Business Bureau http://www.concord.bbb.org/tips_timesharescams.html
The government is NOT in the business of giving away free money for the sake of giving away money. There are no grants for paying bills, no grants for paying off credit cards, no grants for getting out of debt and no grants for simply fattening your wallet.
Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.
For one, you have to write the grant application and the grant application is not a simple document - you have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant.
There is a stringent review process through a committee. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.
You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.
Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.
Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.
Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs
