Travel Wheelchair need advice for wheelchair travel in Banff, Canada?
We want to go to Banff, Jasper etc. We want to know if anybody has taken the "Rocky mountanier" train in a wheelchair and how trully accessible was it. Any other information on accessibilty in the parks would be appreciated. Contact names would also help. Thanks
I have no personal experience with this, but their website says:
3. Are both the RedLeaf and GoldLeaf coaches accessible by wheelchair?
We have excellent wheelchair facilities for both services. There are areas where a wheelchair can be secured in place and have very easy access to the wheelchair accessible washrooms. Wheelchair lifters are available at all stations and the GoldLeaf dome coaches are equipped with interior ADA-style elevators. All we ask is that we are informed at the time of booking of the extent of the disability so we can guarantee that all plans are in place to ensure the vacation experience is a pleasant one.

Can I travel if I'm Wheelchair Bound?
I suffered a stroke and am better now Can I travel?
With the greatest of intentions Thai officials have installed little sidewalk curb ramps for wheel chairs to use but 10 feet down the sidewalk you will find a telephone booth, water hydrant or most likely some street vendor hogging the sidewalk. I do see tourists in wheelchairs in Bangkok and especially Pattaya but you do have to work at it! It is not unusual for a person in a wheel chair to use the road for a little bit along with the pushcarts until the sidewalk opens again.
Some hotels are wheelchair accessible and some are not. It would not be unusual to have 4 guys come out and pick you and chair up to get you in the hotel door. I do notice more and more ramps at hotel doorways, I can't tell you honestly if it is for wheelchairs or so they can roll in heavy boxes - probably both!
I would go for it but expect that you will just have another challenge to overcome. Just about every flight that I have used to get to Thailand (Philippines also) have had people in wheelchairs coming and going. Be adventurous and go for it!
