What is the best inexpensive brand of motor scooter?
There is a group of women who want to travel cross country on small motor scooters to bing awareness to violence against women. We are looking for inexpensive scooters that are reliable. Any ideas? Should we even attempt to purchase them online? Would a 50cc take us the distance, or do we need larger 100 cc models? I drove a 50 cc years ago.
A 50cc will take you the distance, but with a 30mph top speed it might be a tad tedious...
To ride anything larger, however, requires a motorcycle license, so unless you all have such a license, 50cc is your only option.
I must agree with the other answerers, Kymco and Sym are your best choices amongst inexpensive scooters, both are made in Taiwan. Avoid products from mainland China (Taiwan, of course, is not mainland China) and don't buy online. You need to enlist a competent dealership to help you set-up the scoots, and buying a reputed brand with an established dealer network will allow you to obtain service and maintenance en route.
