Transfer Hoyer Bed
Will medicare pay for a hoyer lift?
My father is wheelchair bound following a stroke 2 yrs ago, he has recently had a decline and is difficult to transfer him from bed to wheelchair. Will medicare pay for hoyer lift? Is it difficult to use? Any other products out there that can aid in transfering? Any advice is helpful.
Medicare will pay for some items, it may depend on what products he has already gotten thru the program--like a Wheelchair and how long ago..
If he has a Dr that will write a prescription for one w/ the diagnosis of why it is needed then contact his Medicare provider to see about getting it.
I recommend that if he has had a change in condition of being less able to help, he might qualify for some Home Health services such as a Nurse and Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy to eval and possibly help you and him w/ some exercises and methods of care and they can help get him a Hoyer and train you to use it. You will need a Dr order for Home Health stating th ereason why and since he is Medicare covered he should be able to get all that care if his diagnosis covers it and they can help w/ that.
To find one, ask his Case manager who are good Providers in Home Health.. They stay in only a few weeks but that can make a huge difference w/ what they offer.They have other services as well should he and you need them..
If his condition continues to deteriorate, also consider Hospice when appropriate as they can do more than HomeHealth can in some situations and they are great support longterm.
It is recommended that 2 ppl are present to use a Hoyer for safety.
Also you want the sling w/ the open seat so if needed he can be transferred to a Toilet w/o all the struggle of transfers and clothing.
