How do i deal with a horse who hates having something on her back?
My mare is in training right now. She is great with a saddle but once she sees something taller on her back she bolts and freaks out. I have been working with her with a dummy ( coverall stuffed with straw) but she freaks out). Ig ot to the point where i could put it on her back (after about 30min) and walk around for one circle. When i take it off and try again she freaks out. Any ideas?
no she is not at the trainer. I am training her myself.
Yes i have done natural training. I did Join - Up with her as she was very scared when i got her. Now she is the biggest suck! She reacted the same way when i tried to get on her as she did with the dummy. It is just easier and safer with the dummy. I don;t always have someone around to help, so this is a way i can work with her without having the 2nd person all the time. I am very gentle with her and stay calm. Don't ever, EVER mount a horse in a stall, or even in a barn. If she takes off, and runs under a low hanging object, or through a door, you could seriously be hurt. Blinders are certainly not the answer; sooner or later you will have to take them off; you can't ride a horse with blinders on!! I'm wondering if she is more frightened by the dummy by itself, and not just because you use it on her back. You say she allows it up there for awhile, and then you take it off, and when you want to use it again, she freaks out. I would just forego using that thing altogether. There is plenty of time to acclimate her to having weight on her back after she is totally adjusted to wearing a saddle. Right now she needs to learn that just before weight goes on her, there will be something taller coming up her side. I agree with the sacking out people have suggested. You might want to take that one step further, and try putting your foot in the stirrup, and just pulling yourself up to standing height, and then back down. Do this over and over, rewarding her whenever she doesn't act out. She needs to get used to seeing a person "get taller" by mounting. If she doesn't allow you to step up in the stirrup, stand her beside a mounting block, and stand on it. If she doesn't stand by it, have someone lead her around to you, and then hold her while you step up and down. You will be taller, and she will see there is nothing to fear. Keep stepping up and down, and try to let her see what you are doing. Another idea is to use your longe whip or a carrot stick, and tie a flag or piece of cloth to the end. Stand by her side, and bring the flag up, to simulate someone mounting. I would try this, and if nothing seems to help her acclimate, you probably will have to start repeating her ground work again, or hire an experienced trainer to give you tips.

How often do elcetricity pylons get struck by lightning? What happens when this happens?
I think the number of strikes would be quite high, seeing as electricity pylons are metal and are much taller than most things around. Would the electricity from the bolt cause a surge in the cables, or would it just earth down the frame? What about the insulation on the wires?
so the surge is what causes power cuts during storms, right? I'd still like figures on the number of strikes, esp in UK, seeing as i am too lazy to look it up myself.... lol 
If the lightning strikes just the pylon, nothing very interesting happens -- it just follows the pylon to ground. If any of the charge strikes the conducting wires, the charge will follow the wire to the nearest switchyard, where it will probably pop a circuit breaker, causing a brief outage until the breaker resets. There is no insulation on modern transmission line wires -- you can't make insulation strong enough to keep lightning out.
