Steps More Chair
When did you start using time outs?
My son will be 20 months old next week, and I feel that I should do more than keep saying "no" or "stop" over and over again. When did you effectively start using time outs and what steps did you take to help your child understand the concept?
Also, where is your child's time out area? I don't want to use anything that he uses normally like his high chair or bed.

Typically the child is old enough for timeout if he understands the word "no". If you tell him no, and you know that he understands you but is doing it anyway, it is because there is no reprecussion for "no". In other words, why stop if nothing will happen if I don't? Timeout is usually best when used one minute per year of the child's age, so if he isn't yet two, a minute and a half should do. Time out HAS to be used consistantly, or it is a joke. One minute of time out means one full minute of sitting still in the desegnated spot without throwing himself down or running off to get a toy. If he gets up, don't get upset with him, just calmly and gently pick him up and put him back, no eyecontact, and dont' talk to him because that is what he wants you to do. (a chair is probably too high for a 20mo's time out spot, but a throw pillow, or a stepstool somewhere in a low traffic spot works great!) Good luck mom!

what is the law for building a wheel chair ramp?
I live in new-brunswick Canada and I need to know the law for a wheel chair ramp at home. My father's girlfriend cannot walk up steps, she has to crawl up stairs because of some lung disease. Now she caught some kind of flesh eating bacteria and they think they are going to have to amputate her leg. I know the laws for a ramp at home and a ramp at a Business is not the same so I need your help. my father says an inch of rise for every twelve feet but that seems to be a little bit excessive, I was thinking more of an inch of rise for every thirty inches but I don't know.
1 foot rise for every 12 feet of run. A flat landing for every 12 feet of run. <---pretty much universal code.
