Stairway Elevator

Would Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven"?
been shorter if she had taken the elevator instead?
Honestly, do you people just sit there for hours on end to come up with this tossery? This is almost as bad as the horse with the long face thread...

Earal Stairway Hydraulic Elevator At National Art Gallery West Building
What is this sentence structure called, grammatically?
I just came across this poorly written passage:
"Ignoring the elevator, he headed for the stairway and catapulted himself down to the first floor. Laboring for breath, he felt like he was about to hyperventilate. Struggling to take control of himself, he stopped and sat on the bottom step. Breathing slowly, he rested for a minute. Regaining his composure. . . ."
The term for this type of sentence just ran completely out of my head, and it is driving me crazy. Can anyone tell me?
Thanks
No, I mean when you use the -ing verb form at the beginning of a sentence, and use a comma to separate the subject from the verb. You could say "He regained his composure and went down the stairs," but instead you say "Regaining his composure, he went down the stairs." What are the terms to differentiate the two?
Thanks.
Could it be a hypotactic structure, in contrast to a paratactic structure?
