Special Needs in the Primary School

Special Needs in the Primary School

$98.11

Schools are under more pressure than ever before to provide a good education for pupils with special needs. Revisiting the fifty schools that they researched for their 1985 groundbreaking study, One in Five, Paul Croll and Diana Moses provide an authoritative guide to the central issues of children with special needs. The authors also consider the provision for various special needs, including emotional and behavioral difficulties, ADD, Aspergers Syndrome, autism, and dyslexia. Based on research in special needs carried out in primary schools, this text presents qualitative/quantitative data and deals with issues such as: effects of curriculum; how judgements are made; the impact of policies; role of local government; and emotional and behavioural difficulties. Maori Learners with Special Needs

Maori Learners with Special Needs

$151.35

How can Mori learners with special needs have their needs met in a culturally appropriate, effective way? What challenges exist and how can they be met? A multimethod approach was used to answer these questions, including the development and trial of a cultural audit. Findings revealed that Mori learners with special needs were not being adequately provided for. Special education provisions need to be based on Mori perspectives of special needs and incorporate Mori concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes, language, customs, values and beliefs; focus on areas of importance, concern and benefit to Mori; involve and empower parents, family, the Mori community and the learners themselves; be of a high quality; accessible; result in equitable outcomes for Mori learners; and be delivered by people with the required personal, professional and cultural expertise. The cultural audit was seen as an effective means of improving programs and services for Maori learners with special needs. However, to achieve longterm, widespread improvement, genuine power sharing and societallevel changes in the ideologies, systems and circumstances that disadvantage Mori are needed. It also empowers children by helping them understand the power of their actions and how they can be a good friend to others. Special Educational Needs Provision

Special Educational Needs Provision

$105.14

Over the years the voice of parents of children with special education needs grow louder in their dissatisfaction of the provision of education for their children. As a result of these complaints, there has also been a rise in researches looking into educational provisions for these children and parents satisfaction with these provisions. This book reviews twenty studies which surveyed parents of children with special educational needs. The aim was to identify common themes related to their wishes, needs and / or satisfaction regarding provisions in mainstream, special schools and other services for their children. All the studies were conducted in the UK between 1981 and 2006. They investigated an array of issues including what parents wanted their children to learn, type of school setting they desired, type and level of participation the parents desired with the service providers, their level of satisfaction, community based services, and their expectations on the attitudes of professionals involved. The review has helped to shed some light on how far government policies have gone to involve parents in making decisions about their childrens education. EIO - a Mom's description.MOV

If you were out and you saw a child that look like they were around?

5-6 years old still in a stroller would you think anything?
and i am NOT talking about a child that has special needs or anything, just an average child.

& also, at what age do you think most people should stop with the stroller?

I know some parents use it because it's easier, but the child is like old enough to walk on their own.
I see people with 5 year olds in strollers everyday.

It depends. If it were like Disneyland or something where people are walking around ALL day and might need a place they can crash for a nap, I might not think much of it. On a casual stroll? They really should be walking. I used to walk with my sisters 1/2 a mile to the park, another 1/2 mile to get lunch and then back home again when they were around three and four years old. If they are accustomed to walking and there are well-paved sidewalks to use, there should be nothing stopping them. My daughter is 18 months old and already prefers walking to the stroller or grocery cart and will beg for out. However, I sometimes still bring it with us, just in case she either gets exhausted or to carry her diaper bag if we are going a long way and might need supplies.
