Science help! What would happen if no one knew that Saturn's rings were neither liquid nor solid?
I'm writing a paper on James Clerk Maxwell and I'm almost done. I know his contributions and that one of them was a theory that Saturn's rings are made up of tiny particles because if they were composed of anything else, they would break due to mechanical forces.
So why is this information important today?
or What would occur if everyone still thought they were liquid or solid?
Can anyone give me reasons because I have to list how it affects scientists or people today.
Perhaps it helps support the idea of Roche Limits of bodies in space.
It may also help explain how the Solar System was formed or at least may have occured in the earlier years of the Solar System (for instance, what may have collided with Saturn to form the rings and may help predict what will happen when other events occur such as Triton's pending "collision" course with Neptune, etc.)

What is that one science experiment where you create runny, yet solid substance?
It was a really cool project that I did in 7th grade.
For some reason it was blue.. I can't remember why.
Its some stuff you mix together (I THINK it involved corn meal and vinegar, but i'm not sure)..
Its a runny substance that appears to be a liquid, but when you touch it, its solid! Its really cool.You can throw it on a table and it'll spread like water, but when you touch it, its hard.

You're thinking of cornstarch goo.
It's made of just cornstarch (not corn meal!) and water. Just take some cornstarch and gradually mix in water until it's the desired consistency. If it was blue in 7th grade, it was because you added food coloring.
