how to get scratches out of wheelchairs, crutches etc?
I was standing on the bus today when it lurched forward and I smacked against the stairs. Don't worry I didn't hurt myself but I did scratch up the pylon on my prosthetic leg ( Piece of metal that attaches the foot to the knee)
It's the same polished metal style of wheelchairs and metal crutches. There aren't a lot of amputees kicking around so I thought crutch, scooter, or wheelchair users could help me out. How do you get scuffs and scrapes out?
It's a fine piece of German engineering I want to take good care of my baby.
I would suggest going to an auto parts or paint store that sells automotive paint and look for some scratch repair they use for cars. Or you get the highest grade/grit sandpaper (I'm thinking 2500 grit). Get some rubbing compound and a finishing polish like 3M's finesse or a regular car wax. You would lightly sand the the scratches with the sandpaper. Then you take the rubbing compound and vigorously rub it into the area. Then you buff it off with a buffer (or by hand with a very soft cloth). Then you do the same with the finishing polish. This should shine it up well and fill in the scratches. If there are paint smudges and scuff marks the rubbing compound alone will take that off.
NOTE: I'm telling you what we do on cars SO before you do any of this ask the clerk at the auto parts store to look at the metal on your prosthetic to be sure you can do these steps. I not 100% sure what it is made out of but someone there will tell you the best products and steps to take. If you google videos on how to sand and buff it will show you the techniques there also.
I was also thinking that if you called up some auto detailing places they might be willing to buff out the scratches for you for a few bucks or even for free. With their equipment it would take them less than 10 minutes. Might be worth a call.

I am going to Paris and need to rent a scooter or wheelchair any ideas where to rent from?
In France many of the 'mobility' type shops are attached to pharmacies, as well as some that are independent. Most offer equipment for hire as well as for sale. In France, following a reorganisation, in 2006, all disability related issues pass by a one stop shop 'Maison Departementale des Personnes Handicapee' (MDPH)
If you contact the conseil general in the area that you are going to they will be able to direct you to the best place to rent a scooter/wheelchair (and any other equipment/services that you may require). You can find the local conseil general here;
