The rise is 75cm and the run is 8m.
a) Does the wheelchir ramp meet the requirements?
b) If a second ramp is to be built with a rise of 90cm, what is the shortest length that will still meet the building code?

a) Recall that since slope = rise/run, the slope of the ramp is:
slope = rise/run = (75 cm)/(8 m) = (75 cm)/(800 cm) = 3/32.
Since 1/12 = 3/36 < 3/32, the ramp does NOT meet the requirements.
b) Given rise = 90 cm, we see that require that the run length is:
run = rise/slope = (90 cm)/(1/12) = (12 * 90) cm = 1080 cm = 10.8 m.
