Power Patient characteristic of the isotope which can b used to monitor the blood flow through patient's heart?
can sb tell me the characteristic in term of state of matter(gas, liquid or solid),radiation emmitted(beta, alpha or gamma),half life(long or short period) and its penetrating power
(medium, high or low)which can b used to monitor the blood flow through a patient's heart.and its reason for its each charateristic.
The isotope used in hospitals in the UK is Technetium 99m. It is a pure gamma emmitter ( does not give out any alpha or beta) with a half life of just over 6 hours which on the grand scale of radioactive decay is quite short (not to give the patient a large radiation dose). The energy of the gamma ray emitted is 140 Kev, but the gamma radiation is injected into the patient's blood stream so I'm not sure what you mean about penetrating power. At 140 Kev half the gamma rays will be stopped by about 10 cm of tissue.
The technetium would be in liquid form and labelled to the patient's own red blood cells. Images would the be taken with a machine called a gamma camera. (you could try googling Gamma Camera or MUGA for more info).

A novel of great lyrical beauty and epic tragedy by acclaimed Sri Lankan Canadian author Michael Ondaatje, THE ENGLISH PATIENT won both the Canadian Governor General`s Award and the Man Booker prize in 1992. During World War II, a Canadian nurse serving in an Italian villa becomes the caretaker of a mysterious patient whose body is horribly burned. As the patient slowly reveals his tragic story of romance, espionage, adultery, and loss, Hana finds herself becoming involved with two men in the village: Caravaggio, a British spy who was captured and horribly tortured, and a Sikh sapper named Kip, who attempts to rid the village of its many German bombs. Ondaatje weaves the four characters` tragic storylines together into a marvelous tapestry of heartbreaking richness, a bittersweet masterpiece of 20th-century fiction. In 1996, the novel was made into a major motion picture starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. Directed by Anthony Minghella, the film would win nine Academy Awards--one of the few adaptations to live up the power of the original work.
The essential tools for making our own best medical decisions, cutting through the confusion caused by the health-care system, the media, and gaps in our own reasoning. Making the right medical choices is harder than ever. Whether we`re deciding to take a cholesterol drug or choosing a cancer treatment, we are overwhelmed by information from all sides: our doctors` recommendations, dissenting expert opinions, confusing statistics, conflicting media reports, the advice of friends, claims on the Internet, and a never-ending stream of drug company ads. Your Medical Mind shows us how to chart a clear path through this sea of confusion. Drs. Groopman and Hartzband reveal that each of us has a set of deeply rooted beliefs whose profound influence we may not realize when we make medical decisions. How much trust we place in authority figures, in statistics, or in other patients` stories, in science and technology or in natural healing, and whether we seek the most or the least treatment-all are key factors that shape our choices. Recognizing our preferences and the external factors that might lead our thinking astray can make a dramatic, even lifesaving, difference in our medical decision making. When conflicting information pulls us back and forth between options, when we feel pressured by doctors or loved ones to make a particular choice, or when we have no previous experience to guide us through a crisis, The Patient Decides will prove an essential companion. The authors interviewed scores of patients who have struggled with situations such as these. They also drew on research and insights from doctors, psychologists, economists, and other experts to help reveal the array of forces that can aid or impede our thinking. They show us the subtle strategies drug advertisers use to influence our choices: they unveil the extreme-sometimes dangerously misleading-power of both narratives and statistics. And they help us under

Does a doctor have the power to send an adult to a care center?
Can a doctor send an adult patient to some type of care facility if he believes the patient isn't taking sufficient care of himself?
well it is the duty of the doctor to cure his patient so if he does feel that his patient isnt taking care of himself enough, enough that it could cause a major problem then yeah. of course not just like that, he has to get a court order. i would go more into that but i dont know much about it.
