I met a guy and he and i were talking a little and I thought he was nice enough there, and we planned on staying in touch. Not like a boy/girl fiend thing- just friends. Well he and I talked on the phone some and he wanted me to go over his house. I siad that I would not be able to untill I moved because we were really busy with the new house. (same town just diff house). Well on the phone he would be really pushy and kinda mean about me not coming over right away. Also he has a personality that I dont like. He is physically disabled so he is in a power wheel chair, his mind is not at all affected just his mobility. But all he does is moan and complain and go on and on about how bad everything is. Now I have moved so I cant say that anymore. Do you think that I should go to his house just to see how it goes and then if it goes bad then when he wants me to go over again say that it prolly would not be a good idea?? or not go over at all?? Help Please!
I wouldn't go over at all just based on his personality and how he seems to be. I would personally trust the warning bells in your head and avoid the whole situation.

Tax competition and coordination is one of the most pressing issues for tax authorities in modern economies, but it is a highly controversial subject. Some argue that tax competition is beneficial by forcing governments to impose efficient tax prices on residents for the provision of public services. Further, some argue that tax competition is also beneficial by limiting the power of governments to levy taxes. Others take a different view in a world without coordinated tax policies, governments choose suboptimal levels of public services financed by inefficient taxes that are either too high or too low by ignoring spillovers imposed on other jurisdictions. Capital Mobility and Tax Competition draws out the most important issues of uncoordinated tax policy at the international level for crossborder transactions. The discussion focuses on mobile tax bases, specifically in relation to investment and financial transactions. The main issue for consideration in this survey is whether taxation of income, specifically capital income will survive, how border crossing investment is taxed relative to domestic investment, and whether welfare gains can be achieved through international tax coordination. This survey derives some of the key results on the taxation of international investment in variants of one model of multinational investment. Finally, the authors emphasize the problem of tax competition and financial arbitrage, an issue which is somewhat neglected in the existing survey literature. This book contains a major statement by one of Americas most preeminent sociologists on what remains an important problem in American history and social analysis: the nature and extent of movement within American society from one status to another. The most important images of mobility involve selfimprovement by changing location (going to the frontier, coming to the big city), and by changing social class (secondgeneration immigrants). Almost all sociological and historical analysis has been limited to these themes. Strauss extends the concept to a wide range of ideologies, institutional contexts, and social movements; his analysis is based on a formal theory of status passage and develops a partial theory of mobility. Strauss addresses a theme that underscores much of one strand of his work: the changing articulation of individuals with their social structure and institutions. The book follows on from the theoretical presuppositions of Discovery of Grounded Theory and the formal theory presented in Status Passage. Strauss was continually concerned with American social and intellectual life in its historical and contemporary manifestations. No one else has looked at the important phenomenon of mobility in this broad a context and from this point of view. The book remains important to those concerned with the social history of America and with problems of social change. Anselm Strauss (19161996) was professor of sociology and chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago where he also taught. He was a pioneer in bridging the gap between theory and data in sociology. Joseph Gusfield is Emeritus Professor in Sociology at University of California, San Diego. Since the Revolution of 1910, Mexican society has undergone a profound transformation, characterized by the disempowerment of the landed aristocracy and the rise of a new ruling class of plutocrats and politicians; the development of a middle class of whitecollar professionals; and the upward mobility of formerly disenfranchised Indians who have become urban, workingclass Mestizos. Indeed, Mexicos class system today increasingly resembles that of Western industrialized nations, proving that, while further democratic reforms are needed, the Revolution initiated an ongoing process of change that has created a more egalitarian society in Mexico with greater opportunities for social advancement. This authoritative ethnography examines the transformation of social classes in the CordobaOrizaba region during the latter half of the twentieth century to create a model of provincial social stratification in Mexico. Hugo Nutini focuses on the increased social mobility that has affected all classes of society, especially the rural Indians who have taken advantage of education, job opportunities, and contact with the wider world to achieve Mestizo status. He also traces the transfer of power that followed the demise of the hacienda system, as well as the growing importance of the middle class. This description and analysis of the provincial social stratification system complements the work Nutini has done on the national class system, centered in Mexico City, to offer a comprehensive picture of social stratification and mobility in Mexico today. spina bifida-range of ability?
i've known a number of people with SB, most were paralyzed near the waist, but were independent, a couple were ambulatory..
i saw a fictional tv show with a character with sb who had much less mobility...used a power chair and needed an aide to assist with ADLs...
what % of people with SB are not able to live completely independently due to level of physical disability...
i did know a teen boy who could be independent, but the father refused...made him go to a special ed school instead of public school...and wouldn't let him cath himself....female TEACHER (non medical) aides doing it.......
It all depends on where the opening in the spine is/was and to what degree it was open and if/how it was corrected. It also depends on how it impacts sensory vs motor function.
The higher the level of the spine opening the higher the level of dysfunction, but generally the lower the level of spinal injury the greater the amount of damage. So you could have a person with a high level of damage with restricted ability to use their their body from the neck down and another with absolutely no ability to use their body from the hips down ---- which is more problematic? Both have impaired kidney function (a common characteristic).
Also, there is a type that has very little impact on young children, but may have a progressive impact on older children and adults. It is usually not diagnosed until it become symptomatic (incontinence most often). It may never cause any problems and only be found on an xray.
Spina Bifida with no nerve damage (Meningocele). The spine will be open at birth and need surgical repair, but the spine itself is undamaged. This probably will cause little or no disability in children, but may develop problems later in life.
Spina Bifida with nerve damage (Myelomeningocele) occurs when the spine is open and the spinal nerves are outside the body. It can be surgically corrected, but there is considerable damage to the body and subsequent disability. Most people with it also have hydrocephalus and must have a shunt put into their brain so that brain fluid flows properly.
I have no idea what the percentages are - or even if such percentages exist. I'm not sure how helpful they would be if they did because the variations in Spina Bifida are so vast and would most likely also depend on the age of the person. How independent a person who is 60 has been throughout their life is going to be very different than a person who is now 15 will be throughout their life because of the change in medical care and the opportunities afforded people to be independent.
