Platform Lift
What material is durable and absorbs energy or impact the most?
I'm building an Olympic lift platform. And because it's a platform for Olympic lifts, it's going to be taking a lot of beating from the dropping/throwing of really heavyweights (300-400lbs).
Because of this, I need to use a material (dimension: 6 feet by 2 feet by 1 inch) that absorbs energy/impact the best.
I need something that is easily accessible.
(I hear that high quality virgin rubber is good)
The material which is currently considered the best for
energy dampening / impact reducing is called "Sorbothane".
Sorbothane is a specially formulated synthetic viscoelatic urethane
that is valued for its extraordinary energy dampening properties.
An unusually large amount of energy is absorbed when dropping
objects onto Sorbothane.
It is highly durable, plus it is widely used and readily available.
It is currently used in many applications, including vibration dampening
in computers, acoustic shielding, and shoe soles.
This material will be perfect for your Olympic weights application.

A platform lift.
calculating force needed to lift an object from the middle with a pivot point at one end?
I have a tipping platform that I would like to make hydraulic, it is 9' by 14' it lays flat, has a pivot point on the 14 foot side, weighs 7500lbs, I want it to raise to a 45 degree angle with hydraulic cylinders. the cylinders need to be as short as possible, how do I calculate the force need to lift it from the center point?
