I am a registered nurse and worked for 8 years until I started having back pain 1 year ago. An MRI showed 4 herniated discs. I have been on disability. My ortho doc said that I could further damage my back if I go back to working as a nurse in a hospital with all of the heavy patient lifting, transferring, etc...It is a 12 hour shift with non-stop running, barely getting my break. Well, 1 year and a couple of months later, my disability is about to end next month. Now, on top of my back issue they think I may have rheumatoid arthritis...OMG. My husband works as a pilot and only makes 80,000 a year. We have a six month old and want another baby before we are 40 (we are 38). Is there a job I can do from home? It doesn't have to relate to nursing...anything! I am so worried.
Sean P mentioned Project Payday. No offense but it sounds like a total scam. I looked at the website...hmmmm...not sure about that one. Does anyone else know about this?
Someone mentioned teaching nursing, you need a Master's for pretty much all jobs/careers that allow you to be a teacher. Unless you have one or plan on spending the time and money on upgrading your education, then don't do it.
I suggest you try to work as a midwife. Those are often career choices most people don't hear about or think about. I suggest you think about it. Also, you could apply to work at a local elementary or middle school as a nurse for them.
Other than that, I don't know what else you could do that can help you without going back to school (which you sound too busy to do).

if I got hurt on the job more then 3 mos.and didn't fill out a report can I still claim this as work related?
I am a cna and work with the elderly. My dities includes a lot of lifting and transferring patients.Over 3 months ago i hurt my shoulder.I have been in /out of the emergency room, and also had therapy. My shoulder isn't getting better and the cost of out of pocket is too expensive. Is there any way I can claim this injury as work related.
if you had recent documentation of getting hurt on the job then yes you can file for workers compensation. But it takes a long time to get what you really want out of them. You might want to gather all your medical records when you make the claim.
