Patient Full

In an acute overdose does the patient need to consent and be conscious to receive activated charcoal?
Can it still be used if the patient is out cold? Do they need to be conscious for it to able to be used?
Is there an effective time limit in using it or is there a point in time when it's too late to be used?
Does the patient need to actively consent for it to be able to be used a form of treatment? So if the patient is conscious and refuses the treatment do medical staff just have to stand back and wait for the effects of a full overdose?
Ok, I'll try to answer these questions in order here.
First off, activated charcoal is generally only given to conscious patients, as it needs to be drank. It would be possible to give it to them through a tube in from their mouth to their stomach, but unlikely as there are different techniques for doing that (Gastric Lavage).
The time limit for using charcoal is having the medication taken within the past hour. That being said, activated charcoal can't be used for everything someone could overdose on. Most medications in pill form it can be used for, but liquids and other forms of overdose, it will have no effect, if not harmful effects. Each type of overdose has it's own type of treatment.
Now to the consent thing. That depends on a couple things. First off, yes, consent does need to be given prior to any medical treatment, HOWEVER, if the overdose was done at an attempt at suicide then consent does not need to be given. I'm not sure what it would be called in the USA, but I know there is a law regarding it. In Canada it's called a Form 1 (written by doctor) or a Form 10 (written by police officers.) If you have attempted to kill yourself and did not, you have lost all rights to make decisions for yourself. You are considered to be a harm to yourself and not in the proper state of mind to make decisions for yourself, and thus, the care that is done for you is decided by what will best help you at that time. By attempting suicide, a person loses all rights to make any decision for themselves until evaluated by a physician.
And technically, once a patient becomes unconscious, any treatment given is given in the best intentions of what is best for the patient and it is considered "implied consent." Meaning that were a normal person conscious, would they want this done to help them.
Hope that helps

Batman Arkham Asylum Patient Interviews: The Scarecrow - Full
Would kinesiology be something that would help with patient rehabilitation?
I just need a few more credit hours to be considered a full time student. I found kinesiology under physical therapy, What is it exactly and could help my patients with their rehabilitation?
Depends on what you're referring to:
• Kinesiology, also known as Human Kinetics, is the science of human movement.
• Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a practice of using manual muscle-strength testing for medical diagnosis and a subsequent determination of prescribed therapy.
Applied Kinesiology is used for diagnosis, not for therapy.
Kinesiology provides advice about movement and egonomics. It does not seem to me to be directly applicable to physical therapy except in two ways:
1. Advice to avoid re-injury, where the injury is caused by overuse and not by trauma.
2. Advice for changes to physical activity, where an injury means the patient should not continue to do certain activities the way they used to.
Sounds to me that Kinesiology would be very useful if you're planning to focus on sports injury treatment in relation to high level sport training.
Your college professors would be able to give you better information than you're likely to find here on YA, if you can give them some indication of the sort of work you want to do.
