Competition is a contest between individuals, groups, nations, animals, etc. for territory, a niche, or allocation of resources. It arises whenever two or more parties strive for a goal which cannot be shared. Competition occurs naturally between living organisms which coexist in the same environment. For example, animals compete over water supplies, food, and mates, etc. Humans compete for water, food, and mates, though when these needs are met deep rivalries often arise over the pursuit of wealth, prestige, and fame. Business is often associated with competition as most companies are in competition with at least one other firm over the same group of customers. Competition may give incentives for selfimprovement. For example, if two watchmakers are competing for business, they will hopefully improve their products and service to increase sales. If one watchmaker is more responsive to the needs of consumers, this watchmaker will flourish. Sections address competitive advantage, including the five forces and strategic positioning; the role of location, including his "diamond theory"; using strategic thinking in addressing societal issues such as environmental sustainability and income inequality; the application of strategy by nonprofits and corporations as a means of philanthropy; and leadership. Competition Regulator

Competition Regulator

$78.07

A competition regulator is a government agency, typically a statutory authority, sometimes called an economic regulator, which regulates and enforces competition laws, and may sometimes also enforce consumer protection laws. In addition to such agencies there is often another body responsible for formulating competition policy. Many nations implement competition laws, and there is general agreement on acceptable standards of behavior. The degree to which countries enforce their competition policy does vary substantially, with the United States generally regarded as having the most strict competition laws and enforcement. Competition regulators may also regulate certain aspects of mergers and acquisitions and business alliances and regulate or prohibit cartels and monopolies. Other government agencies may have responsibilities in relation to aspects of competition law which affect companies (eg. the registrar of companies). Regulators may form supranational or international alliances like the ECA (European Competition Authorities), the ICN (International Competition Network), and the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development). Competition (Economics)

Competition (Economics)

$74.88

Competition in economics is a term that encompasses the notion of individuals and firms striving for a greater share of a market to sell or buy goods and services. MerriamWebster defines competition in business as the effort of two or more parties acting independently to secure the business of a third party by offering the most favorable terms. It was described by Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations and later economists as allocating productive resources to their most highlyvalued uses and encouraging efficiency. Later microeconomic theory distinguished between perfect competition and imperfect competition, concluding that with the no system of resource allocation is more efficient than perfect competition. Competition, according to the theory, causes commercial firms to develop new products, services and technologies, which would give consumers greater selection and better products. The greater selection typically causes lower prices for the products, compared to what the price would be if there was no competition or little competition. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Unfair competition in commercial law refers to a number of areas of law involving acts by one competitor or group of competitors which harm another in the field, and which may give rise to criminal offenses and civil causes of action. Various unfair business practices such as fraud, misrepresentation, and unconscionable contracts may be considered unfair competition, if they give one competitor an advantage over others. In the European Union, each member state must regulate unfair business practices in accordance with the principles laid down in the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, subject to transitional periods. Competition Law

Competition Law

$124.27

Competition law, known in the United States as antitrust law, has three main elements: prohibiting agreements or practices that restrict free trading and competition between business entities. This includes in particular the repression of cartels. Banning abusive behavior by a firm dominating a market, or anticompetitive practices that tend to lead to such a dominant position. Practices controlled in this way may include predatory pricing, tying, price gouging, refusal to deal, and many others. Supervising the mergers and acquisitions of large corporations, including some joint ventures. Transactions that are considered to threaten the competitive process can be prohibited altogether, or approved subject to remedies such as an obligation to divest part of the merged business or to offer licenses or access to facilities to enable other businesses to continue competing. The substance and practice of competition law varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Protecting the interests of consumers (consumer welfare) and ensuring that entrepreneurs have an opportunity to compete in the market economy are often treated as important objectives. The Future of Competition

The Future of Competition

In this visionary book, C. K. Prahalad and Venkat Ramaswamy explore why, despite unbounded opportunities for innovation, companies still can't satisfy customers and sustain profitable growth. The explanation for this apparent paradox lies in recognizing the structural changes brought about by the convergence of industries and technologies; ubiquitous connectivity and globalization; and, as a consequence, the evolving role of the consumer from passive recipient to active co-creator of value. Managers need a new framework for value creation. This book is about the emerging next practices in value creation.Increasingly, individual customers interact with a network of firms and consumer communities toco-create value. No longer can firms autonomously create value. Neither is value embedded in products and services per se. Products are but an artifact around which compelling individual experiences are created. As a result, the focus of innovation will shift from products and services to experience environments that individuals can interact with to co-construct their own experiences. Thesepersonalized co-creation experiences are the source of unique value for consumers and companies alike. In this emerging opportunity space, companies must build new strategic capital-a new theory on how to compete. This book presents a detailed view of the new functional, organizational, infrastructure, and governance capabilities that will be required for competing on experiences and co-creating unique value. This is the future of competition.

That's So Raven - Mind Your Own Business (1/3)

I want to set up my own same day courier business! best answer to the most detailed and informative :D ?

Well, i want to run my own business, and i like the idea of a same day courier as i could start it off myself and hopefully earn a decent wage.

There are many things that i need to take in to account so obviously i would appreciate detailed info on each;

1) Average price per mile (to charge them)
2) Set up costs
3) Insurances needed
4) Best customers
5) What customers expect
6) Main competition
7) Main problems and set backs
8) Anything else i may not have mentioned yet or even thought of

Thanks so much,

Cheers,

Luke
BTW I am in the UK.

Based in Nottingham.

I have done a bit of research myself and did qoutes for all around the country with one business and worked out that they charge £1.25 per mile.

I know that royal mail can do cheaper.

Cheers,

Luke

The first thing to do in setting up a business especially a small local one, is to see if there is a vacuum in your area of your idea - how much competition is there? who's toes will you be treading on? If there is already a business in the area, can you compete? Is the area oversuscribed or undersubscribed?

You may have a good idea but your area may be bad, you may have to move your idea to an area where there is a vacuum in the market

You may need a businees loan from a bank, for which you will have to set out a prospectus of wht you think you will earn and how much it will cost you to run. Through interest the banks will sell you £5 notes at the price of £7, can you afford such interest rates??? ( This is the sin of usery and why we have the credit crunch we are experiencing - I wouldn't go to a bank myself) Why would you (or anyone) pay £7 for a £5 note?????????????

Will your service be giving 'good value' to the customers?

Well there are my thoughts, hope they are a help and 'Bon Chance'
