RES with nails ripped out and arm damage?
I just went to feed my turtles and noticed one of them has all of her nails ripped out of one hand and there is some obvious tearing and at least one bite mark on the side of her arm. I have isolated her from her brother who seems to have attacked her while my husband and I were gone for the day. I have her in a smaller tank with basking dock and heating lamp. She isn't bleeding but is definitely in pain because she will barely move it away from her shell. So besides obviously keeping her away from her brother, what else should I do? I don't have a vet around here who will see her because apparently RES are illegal for some reason. Anyway, should I keep her in the water or get her dry? I thought about some antibacterial ointment or something but I didn't know if that would hurt her... I know they have antibiotic drops for the water... does she need medication or is this something that will heal as long as she isn't further attacked? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
You might try "dry-docking" her when you use the antibiotic ointment. Can you find a reptile vet in another area where RES are legal?

My cat keeps staring out the window at pigeons and meowing at walls and windows. What should I do?
We live in a 4 story apartment and we live on the fourth story and my cat is nearly 3 years old and an indoor cat. She's only been outside a couple of times but in the car going to the vet.
Recently she's been staring out the window at birds that flutter by or sit on our window. Right now she's been staring out the window for nearly an hour at birds or outside.
When shes not staring at the window she meows at the walls, windows, and high shelves.
I know she wants go outside, but I'm afraid she'll get lost or hurt if I take her outside - I live in kuwait [in the Middle East] and they'res many stray cats here outside and if she runs away she might get lost or hurt.
What should I do? I want to take her outside but Im not sure what to do.
Ok, two suggestions.
Get her a harness and lead, I have two cats both of which walk on the lead. The one cat was already 1 year old when I taught her, so your kitty being 3 is not a problem. Be patient with her, a friend of mine had a cat who was terrified initially of the leash, and was very afraid outside, now she goes crazy when she sees the leash! If your apartment has a garden section, this would be the perfect place to take her.
Another suggestion. Make sure you first put her in a kitty cage to take her outside. If she gets used to just being let out the door on the leash, every time you open your door, she's going to make a run for it. If you teach her that when she goes in the cage, she then gets to go outside, she'll associate the cage with outide and not the door!
Second - perhaps you can keep her interested in the inside by getting her a friend! Get her another kitty to play with, they worry a lot less about the outside, when they've got a pal to hang out with indoors! She may take a while to get used to another cat, but it really has it's rewards owning two kitties, they're heaps of fun!
