Once a patient is suicidal, is there really anything that can be done?

"We don't have a magic wand."
"You have to make yourself better."
"What do you want us to do for you?"

I hear this every day. I don't know what I want people to say but hearing these things destroys me.
Is it possible to ever "get over" these feelings, given that the feelings themselves are traumatic? Do things ever get completely better or do people just learn to "cope with life"?

People who are feeling suicidal or/and people who have attempted suicide can be helped, yes. It's horrible that you're being told those lines. If it's your counsellor who talks like this, you need a different one. No therapist should take that attitude. Only the third would be OK when starting with a new therapist - if they were trying to understand what you wanted to get out of the therapy (I know it should be obvious, but I think they ask because they want to make sure you do want to be helped). It's possible to get through this, but you need a proper support system (not just a good therapist, but also someone you can talk to outside of therapy if possible). Once you start to feel better, life in general should be something that you enjoy rather than simply cope with, but therapy does concentrate on helping you to cope, as not being able to is often what causes such psychological distress. Kinda like: Therapy > helping you to cope = life eventually becomes more enjoyable. However, sometimes people feel suicidal not because of particularly stressful situations occurring, but because there's an abnormality in their brain. You didn't state which is the case for you, but therapy on its own is not always helpful, especially if you do have an imbalance in ze brain. Try not to give up.

Does anyone know the florida laws on Nurses documenting on patient care?

Hi, I am trying to find out the laws for nursing homes as to exactly what and how often they have to document on a patient in their care. Someone has told me that it is only once every month and I cannot believe that is true. If someone knows of anything pertaining to this I would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you.

I can't state the laws in Florida, but I imagine they would be pretty universal throughout the states. I am in Pa and I do believe the requirement here is once a month, this may have changed since I've been out of Nursing for several years. I have worked at several facilities,we always had to do a monthly summary on all the residents and at least a basic charting note weekly. The regulations about documentation aren't as strict for a nursing home.
