Can you put polyurethane foam in a washing machine or will it get destroyed?
Can you put polyurethane foam in a washing machine or will it get destroyed?
i have polyurethane foam from an office chair than needs cleaning. its 91% polyurethane and 8% polyester fibre batting,
im just wondering if it will either get destroyed in the machine or shrink or anything else i should note before attempting.
-or should i just hand wash it in the tub. and if so what cleaners should i use in the tub? (bleach detergent etc...)

DO NOT put it in a washing machine - unless you want tiny particles of foam everywhere. Most especially, do not run it through a dryer. My wife did that once - and it was a 3-4 hour ordeal to clean out every part-and-piece of the washer drum and water path. Of course, it gave me a chance to do some preventive maintenance so not altogether a bad thing.
Mild detergent cleaners work well - but if stuff is soaked into the foam, you may have to wash it and rinse it several times.
Chlorine bleach can react with some of the contaminants which can then also attack the foam - so be very careful with it. Oxy-Clean materials work well if necessary.
