Wow, I have a new appreciation for being in a wheelchair -- do you find people to be rude to those in one?
My daughter is temporarily hobbled and we used a wheelchair to get her around a huge zoo today. Man are people rude -- staring and cutting the poor kid off; or not clearing paths in general.
Do you notice such rude behavior when it comes to people in wheelchairs? How do you handle it?
I had to tell one guy if he didn't get out of the way, he'd be needing a wheelchair, too.
No, I have never noticed that. Here, people seem to be more polite to people in wheelchairs than to others in general. When my mom was ill, she was in a wheelchair for a while, and people went out of their way to help, like opening doors, etc. The only time I thought someone was a little bit rude was a salesclerk in a J.C. Penneys store in the mall.
That's too bad you had that experience. I can understand your frustration. Maybe that's how it is in New York?
If they don't respond to "Excuse me.", then maybe a little nudge is in order to clear the path. You can always act like it was accidental.
