Getting the serpintine belt back on?
I changed the alternator on my 89 chrysler new yorker. Taking the old belt/alt off and adding the enw alt was a breeze, however, I cant seem to get the serpintine belt back on. I loosened the tensioner arm, yet I cant get it to budge in order to get the belt on tight. I also loosened it enough to pull it from the mounting, got the belt on, but cant get the tensiorer arm beck into the mount that way. Am I a wuss who just doesnt have the strength, am I doing something wrong, any tips would be appreciated, I'm not a car guy, and I'm proud about doing the alternator, I really want to finish this myself, could the tensioner arm be bad and stuck? whats the deal? Help from experienced car folks would be great!
belt is routed properly, only problem is getting tensiorer arm to move enough to slide belt over the last pulley, about 3/4 inch away. I just read a 1/2 breaker arm inserted into the square hole can be used to move the tensioner arm, is this correct?
put a 2 foot piece of pipe over your breaker bar for extra leverage to move the tensioner, are you sure the belt is correct length?.
