I use a motorized wheelchair for mobility problems and my landlord asked me yesterday why I use it .?
I use it because I cannot get around without it for fear of falling - I fall a lot. What should I have said to him?
You should have said exactly what you just told us in your question.
If you're not happy giving him an honest answer then you could have said that you'd prefer not to talk about it. All polite people will accept that as a valid answer, it's only rude people who won't.
If you'd prefer to make a joke out of it you could just say that you're plain lazy, or that you were in an accident involving a llama and a trampoline (or other random accident ingredients you like) and let him imagine for himself or realize it's a joke.
Your health is your business, you can tell people as much or as little as you like and you shouldn't be made to feel bad for not sharing the information with anyone.
