Mobility Scooter Racks
Anyone know of a org. that helps the disabled to get a scooter rack for auto?
MY insurance Company paid for me to get a mobility scooter to become mobile. However I am on a very small fixed income and raising a granddaughter also. I have no money to buy a rack to carry the scooter on the car. Currently I am still not able to go anywhere outside of my home with the scooter .I have been told there is probably a org. out there somewhere that may help me to get a rack for the car. Does anyone know of a org or club who could help me? I did have the Rotary club here in Va. that built me a ramp, but they do not fund racks for cars. Help lead me in the right direction if you can!
First, check with your city's or county's departments for the disabled, they might know a place locally.
If your car already has a 2 inch reciever hitch for towing a trailer, you can get a lightweight aluminum platform from Harbor Freight that's big enough for most mobility scooters and they also have loading ramps for them.
Harbor Freight has very low prices and you can buy online if there isn't one near you.

Can a class 3 ,2 inch reciever be installed on my 1998 Ford Escourt?
I need to put a mobility scooter rack on my car for transporting the scooter I have, but am not sure if this is possible because Ford recommends a 1 1/4 in. receiver, however the rack requires a 2 in. class 3 Receiver to use them. Can I buy adapter to make it fit ? or can this even be mounted on my car at all ?
Seeing as you are not trying to tow a trailer, the weight issue is moot. You can get an adapter to install your rack to a 1 1/4 inch receiver.
Tractor Supply carries the adapter for $29.99 and you should be able to buy one at any trailer company.
