Mattress- Too Firm; Breaking-In Period?
My new mattress (firm, with memory foam on top layer) arrived yesterday. When I was shopping for a mattress, I specified that I would like a firm, but not too firm, mattress. The one I got (Loring Park Firm, from Macy's) felt okay (on the firm side, but still a little cushioned) a the store, but I noticed that the mattress I have now feels ultra firm. I would have liked a bit more cushioning (I like some, but not too much).
I am thinking that this might be due to the fact that it is brand-new-- the floor model was repeatedly tested out. Is there in fact a breaking-in/adjustment period with new mattresses? If so, how long should I wait and see? Is it reasonable to assume that my mattress will become a lot more cushiony over the next month or so? Thanks!
I am not 73 yet but getting there! While the gentleman's answer has merit, let me say this! I have a bad back and can tell you that the firmer the mattress the better for your back. Consider keeping it but call the store and ask how long you will be allowed to try it before deciding on a return. Some stores allow a return and some don't.
I do know this for sure. All parts of a mattress have a certain life expectancy period. All parts will become less firm with time and that is why they must be replaced. The firmer your bed the longer it will be before you need to replace it.
If it is too firm then do replace it- you have to be able to stand it. Just be sure you give it enough time to see if you can adjust.

and after about 5 minutes my back and rear really hurts,thank you Willow for telling me about pressure cushions but i have tried memory foam and that doesn,t work,if sheepskin does work where will i buy a piece and will it be expensive?
You ask for a synthetic fleece pad or a synthetic sheepskin pad at the chemist or disabled living shop.
If you buy from disabled living shop and you have a specific disability which you obviously do, they knock off the vat.
