$ being spent on prisoners to rehab them?

i can understand this to some degree, if they have a short sentence or their crime wasnt particularly heinous; but if that was the case, why did they get sentenced?

why do we "owe" law violaters a free training program/job training programs etc. it really bothers me. considering, they spend practically ZERO on mental health programs/housing programs, drug abuse treatment/rehabilitation/job training for people that HAVENT broken the law!!

Am i wrong to feel this way? and is this the result of law enforcement organisation lobbyists or why is this? and dont tell me they're doing it to help people because they could do that by spending more money on programs for people that dont break the laws. just fed up with this kind of crap.

same thing applies for medical and dental care.

I feel the same as you!! Some of the people in prisons have it better than people out here that are law abiding and trying to stay afloat. And, don't even get me started on the free medical in this country when we have to pay sooooo much for ours.

Murder on the Rehab Unit

Dr. Jack Culver is the medical director of a rehabilitation unit in a small town hospital in southern Illinois. After six rehabilitation inpatients die in one quarter, he becomes convinced that a serial killer is loose in the hospital. He and Rickie Davis, a rehabilitation nurse, are the only ones who believe the deaths were murders. In an attempt to convince the hospital that a serial killer exists and must be stopped, Culver risks his reputation, financial stability, and even his health. The book follows Culver through a startling series of events in which he bravely loses most of what he holds dear in life, and even faces his own death. The story accelerates into a surprise and bloody ending. Readers will enjoy the author s refreshingly different approach to mystery writing, and will find the book educational, spine tingling, inspiring, difficult to put down, and a must read. The Rehab Myth (Paperback)

The Rehab Myth (Paperback)

$30.16

Unbeknownst to most Americans (or even to many physicians), there are a range of safe medications that are very effective for treating alcoholism at any stage. A Hazelden Foundation award-winning physician and one of the most credentialed experts in addiction, Dr. Bankole Johnson explains how alcoholism is a disease with a genetic influence and why 12-step programs are not the solution. This new alcoholism recovery plan offers unprecedented options and flexibility for those seeking treatment without the high cost and stigma of traditional rehab. By completing a four-factor checklist—current health, medical history, family history, and physical and mental symptoms—readers can determine whether they or their loved ones fit the treatment profile. Featuring in-depth personal stories throughout, The Rehab Myth delivers an explosive new set of choices grounded in a medical model, rather than a psychotherapeutic or spiritual one, that has already begun to drastically improve the landscape of alcoholism recovery.

Can a medical doctor involuntarily commit someone for alcohol rehabilitation?

Plain and simple. I am seeing my doctor today and he once threatened to commit me to rehab when I fell off the wagon

A person can only be committed if he is an *imminent* threat to himself or others. A slow, long term threat doesn't count. So the answer is no.

Your doctor can, however, refuse to continue being your doctor if you refuse to stop drinking. He will have to give you proper notice, but he doesn't have to put up with your alcohol abuse if you refuse to follow his advice.
