Medical Phantom
Why do I obsess over things? (As in movies, ext.)?
Ever since I can remember, I have always been obsessed with something, as in a movie or a book, and the list goes on. I am getting really fed up, and when I tried to explain how it feels to never know why you're so obsessed with something to friends when I was at the mall, I ended up clawing at my face and didn't even notice until the said I had marks on my face. (Time to cut my nails....) I've lost friends over this, and some are just really confused, and so am I. I just want to be able to JUST like things, not be able to recite the whole The Phantom of the Opera script, just to go see a movie, then get obsessed with a certain character. I do have OCD, and I am not on and medical drugs or drinking, since I am underage.
Phantom of the Opera has been my obsession for over 10 years, and I can recite the songs in spanish, french, english and of course the entire movie, AND then entire broadway show...seriously. That is because I continue to feed my love for it day after day. I could stop liking it, but I don't want to.
There's a difference between REALLy, REALLY liking things, and obsessing over them. I'm not sure what the "clawing" thing has to do with obsessing, but...
I think you allow yourself to get obsessed with things. If you seriously think about it and say "WHY am I obsessing over this? It's not real...this is kind of silly." and if you simply can't, then you need to get help. I don't think OCD has ANYTHING to do with your liking of things. OCD is like you can't stand to have things in disorder, you have to have things set up or organized a certain way. it's over little things that most people would think silly or not even think about. Like putting the same colored markers together or something like that. Not being obsessed with fictional characters.
So if you think it's a really serious problem, and you are losing friends over it, you need to talk to someone about it. A school counselor or psychologist...or tell you parents/guardians/family that you want help.
