Large Big Pilot
Aircraft sitting at end of runway before int'l flight...?
I noticed this at especially big airports. Large aircrafts on international long-hauls will push back, taxi to near the hold short line and wait for like 5-15 minutes. Sometimes the tower will call them and ask if they're ready or if they "need more time" and the pilots usually request more time for "procedures".
What are these procedures and why aren't they completed before pushback?
Hard to say, they could be finishing their greasy lunch, or maybe they are doing an enhanced alignment on the Inertial Nav Units. This increases their accuracy over a long flight.

NWA and Delta merge good or bad?
Will this make pilot jobs? What effect will it have on future airline pilot jobs? More competitive? Bigger airline means more destinations,=more pilots? 800 planes, that means 24k pilots easy right?

What becomes of Comair and NWA Airlink?
All of the companies under Northwest Airlink are now a part of Delta Connection, and some are expected to thrive, some are expected to fail. It depends on the company's revenue and turnaround times. Delta is already taking planes from Pinnacle Airlines and giving them to Mesaba Airlines, because Mesaba Airlines is a more efficient company. So it comes down to what it always comes down to; money.
By the way, it's a total buyout, not a merger. All Northwest and Northwest Airlink planes will be under Delta paint by late 2010.
