Great professional video camera?
Hi, I'm taking cinematography courses and want to buy a professional video camera to start making my own short movies. I would like a lot of things to be manual (focus, iris, audio control etc). It would really help if you gave me your opinion. Thank you!

If I was you I would have a look around, cameras such as Sony, Canon, JVC to name but three, your budget is the main problem, once you start to enter the professional area prices are high.
On a limited budget and a great first professional camera Canon XL's.. They give you the benefits of the auto features, but have fully functional manuel controls. Many professionals use them, from small film companies to outside broadcast.
Again hands on, with your course you will have the opportunity to "play" with different cameras, find one you like the feel of, the size and weight, even the controls can you reach them with out looking for too long.

Which camcorder should I buy?
Hey I want to buy a camcorder to produce homemade short films / student films. I'm in a dilemma between the Sony XR500V and the Panasonic TM-300. Which one is better? Which one should I get?
I know the sony lacks manual iris and other manual adjustments but I got the impression that the Panasonic is unreliable..
After watching some clips on youtube it seems that the sony has a problem when the exposure changes often, the colors seem to change - not in all of them in some, specially if they try do make it in 24p mode through the editing software (another good feature by the panasonic) but on the other hand, again, many of those who got the Panasonic were not pleased at all.
Please help me!!!

I did not mean to be rude.I’m sure the mighty 8 photogs will do what needs to get done.I just think professional photographers should use professional tools. I use consumer gear everyday for stories if it helps me get great shots, but at the end of the day I have a real TV camera in my trunk.I just worry that if a shop with a chief who is committed to great photography is loosing professional cameras we are all doomed. Setting manual iris, manual focus the ability to judge color temperature just by looking into a room …. all skills thatwill die with babycams along with great local tv news.
