Handicap Wheelchair Elevator
Americans with Disabilities Legal Question?

am employed with a government agency as a courtroom clerk in Arizona. I am temporarily in a wheelchair and have been released back to work after having surgery for a broken ankle. The facility in which I work in was built in late 2004. Many of the courtrooms are not handicapped accessible and I have to crawl up stairs to enter the courtroom. There is a wheelchair elevator which is tagged and states that under Arizona Revised Statutes 23-491.03.: Existing conveyances
Existing conveyances lawfully installed prior to the effective date of this article may continue in use if the use is, in the opinion of the director, not a hazard to life, health or property.
Do I have any legal recourse?

You wouldn't be covered under the ADA because you have a temporary disability.

Handicap room in hotel?

I checked into a hotel today, all by myself. Maybe they think I am frail, but they put me into a handicapped room on the second floor.

Later, I had them move me, for a totally unrelated reason. Then I started to wonder.........

Why would a hotel put a handicap room on the SECOND floor, and then post a sign by the elevators that reads, "In case of fire, these elevaters will not operate."

How the heck would a wheelchair bound handicapped person get to the ground floor in case of a fire?

Is this even legal?

Last year we were evacuated from a whole town due to fires in Texas. My mother and I lived in a duplex her in one end me in the other. We are both disabled and both on oxygen. We started looking for a motel with a handicap accessible room on the first floor. We found one and moved all the oxygen walkers, meds.,pillows (we both sleep in hospital beds) clothes for a couple of days......etc.We get there and they have no one to help us to our room. At that time I could drive, (I could drive now if I had a veh. I could put my electric chair/scooter in) but you couldn't get the car close enough to the door to like throw your stuff in while hanging onto the trunk.
Being that I worked in law enforcement 22 years I ended up calling a cop that helped us, but what about people who don't have that. any way the next day they called and said we still couldn't come home. The motel moved us to a non accessible room, it was hell. hope others have better experiences than those of us here. Thanx for asking this question. I thought we just got a bad motel, I guess not...
