Sadly, yes. It would be different if they could do no better, but they could be a first world nation, they have the potential and the workforce that has proven it can learn all the skills and work just as hard as it's northern neighbor. Some of them have family values far above the average American home, but because Americans see others working when they are not, they don't want to admit anything good about their Mexican neighbors. Problem is if you make hardworking Mexicans who want to get ahead and build a better future for themselves and family, into US citizens, what does that live in Mexico? It's sort of like all these student visas, they issue them to foreigners to come here and learn but then go back home and improve their own countries, but many never go back, they should require they do so for at least a decade, even if given US citizen ship status afterwards. At least the people who run many convenience stores here go back home after while and send other members of their family to run the business here, and in that sense, they improve their own country, and their own family's standing. I don't know if that can work in Mexico where crime, extortion, bribery, kidknapping, etc. robs any wealth any person tries to build up and makes it unsafe for anyone to be successful. Much of what they earn here gets sent back to Mexico, where the criminal bosses and politicians skim or seize wealth anytime they can find it, so why invest in anything? Right now the big corporations that had been exploiting that country are leaving for Asia unless it saves on ocean shipping offinished goods to the Americas, leaving smuggling and drugs their biggest future industries, this as they are talking of easing border passage. Yes, I would rather see people crossing through controlled points, with at least attempted secure passports, but again, the criminals will still find a way around every law.
