Golden Comforter Dog chews up EVERYTHING and is disobeying all the time now...?
Our dog Ozzy (a year and a half old golden lab) gets plenty of attention, has plenty of toys, but he won't stay anymore, lays on our bed, chews up everything!! And I mean everything, clothes, shoes, furniture, and last night he chewed up the comforter on our bed! We have tried crating him, and he mysteriously gets sores on his nose from trying to get out, we have tried putting him in a room with nothing and he still finds something to chew up. I am at my wit's end and don't know what to do...He also licks his privates to the point where his balls are scabby, and his underbelly is raw and looks like he has chicken pox or really big zits. What do I do?!
I walk him about three miles everyday...and he gets plenty of play, but the few minutes that we leave him alone, is when he does all of the chewing...his licking is ALL the time and we just tell him to stop an he usually does..but it has all gotten to be too much and too frequent!!
Congratulations you have an adolescent. This is like having a 14-16 year old. The common sense brain cells aren't there but the obnoxious ones are there and working overtime. He needs a training class with consistant training daily. He also needs a job and some responsiblity even if it's just bringing in the paper and sitting for a treat. Exercise is quite important. A tired dog is a good dog. The skin issue needs to be addressed by a vet Unfortunately this is the age that many labs end up in the shelter. Then I come along rescue them rehab them and place them. If you give your dog some time, TRAINING, EXERCISE, and patience this will change.

Dogs going to New Jersey?
Hi everyone. I have a quick question. I am going to NJ and bringing my golden retriever and my other dog a lab/pit mix. I'm actually leaving them with a friend for a few days from jan 22-25 because I need to go to Philly for my mom's operation which is why I won't be with my dogs. Now my question is, maybe someone from NJ or up north can answer....
My friend needs to leave the dogs outside while at work maybe for 5 or 6 hours until someone is at home because they have a cat who may not get along with the dogs. Will they be okay outside in the cold? I am from Florida so they have never really been in a cold environment. They will be on a raised deck in the back yard with their two large comforters and their fleece doggie beds. Then will be in the house when my friend or someone gets back home. My dogs are like children and don't want anything to happen to them. We have no one else to watch them. Do you think this will be alright?
I'm not so sure about that... I know they are getting a ton of snow today, and who knows what will be on the ground/coming down while they are left outside. They aren't used to cold weather at all... combine that with WET cold weather... not such a good idea. Is there any way they can be enclosed in an area in the house (IE: a room with the door shut and them in crates to keep them away from the cat and the cat away from them)?
