Why do most newer FWD cars have inner radiator electric fans?
Are the electric fans used for the car's primary cooling? Or do they just assist with the cooling when idling? Basically what I'm saying is do they ever turn on for example if your cruising down the highway?

Sorry one more question if someone gets this. Do the fans blow air towards the radiator or the engine. Thanks again.
They have a thermocouple, only turn on when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. When going on the highway the airflow should be sufficient without the fan. Yes the fans are used for primary cooling. On most FWD cars the engine is transversely mounted, the front of the engine is pointing toward the passenger side fender well, this is why a fan powered by the serpentine accessory belt would not work. Its a more efficient way of doing things, the fan only turns on as needed. When you turn on the AC there is usually a second fan that stays on all the time the AC is on.

Transmission removal?
We may attemp to remove the transmission at the yard where my freinds wrecked car is.
To my knowledge, you simply....remove axles, disconect the shift linkage, unplugs wires and clips, then unbolt it from the block, slide iot off, and lower it.
Its a v6 fwd dodge caravan 97, is there anything i am missing here? we intend to do it only with the front of the car on jack stands, using an electric impact powered by my car, we have sockets, pullers, and basic hand tools.
How much will the transmission weigh? will it crush me to death or can i bear its weight without a jack to help lower it?
Yeah your going to need a jack to hold it up until you get everything disconnected. My advice is disconnect all the wires before you disconnect the driveline and from the block. Also make sure when you disconnect the shift linkage nothing gets bent or out of place or it wont shift right. If you take your time you should be able to figure out how to get it out, but its harder than you may think..
