how do i make my wheel chair front wheels stop wobbbling/fluttering?
I have a Quickey RX wheelchair (i'm not handi-capped i just have it for fun) and i want to be able to go really fast down ramps and such in it. but as soon as i start going (usually about 7-8 MPH) my front wheels start wobbling and slow me down. is there any way to make those front wheels stop wobbling/fluttering so i can get going at a pretty high speed?
It could be an indication that the chair has been rammed hard into something at some point, could even just be running into a stone on one of your downhill trips.
Dissembling the castor housing and reassembling, making sure that the castor attachment is exactly 90 degrees with a flat floor might help.
From what I can see from googling the quickie RX it's a side-to-side folding design? If I'm right on that then I don't think you'll ever totally get rid of the castor shake at that speed, there's just too much movement in the frame to be able to reliably adjust it so that all the wheels always hit the ground at exactly the right angle to not shake.
If it used to be better than it is now, have a good look in the castor housings. If not then it might be best left alone in case you make it worse. If you can't fix it and wheeling fast down hills is something important to you, buy a rigid frame chair. Look on ebay, there are sometimes good deals to be had.
