Foldable Wheelchair What happens if you have to check your wheelchair with your luggage, and the airport wheelchair is too small?
I'm flying Paris - Melbourne (with a stop in Doha,Qatar) and I'm a little worried... I have MS and am obese and have a non-foldable manual wheelchair. My problem is that the last time I went on a plane was several years ago when I wasn't overweight and had just started using the wheelchair -the transfer chairs were small even then!! Is it likely that they would let me take my own wheelchair up to the plane, then dissemble it and put in cargo and be prepared to assemble my chair and bring it up for me? I know that I will have to ring the airline (Qatar airlines) to get their position on the situation, but I just wanted to have a heads up from anyone who has been in this situation, or to know if I have any legal rights before talking to the airline.

You can take your own chair to the gate. However, if you cannot walk at all, you will still need to use an aisle chair, which is extremely small.
