You're driving in a city. There are no cars moving. Up ahead you see a ball roll into the middle of the street.
1. What would be your first course of action?
2. Why?
3. How far should your line of sight be?
4. What type of vision should you be using?
5. How far should your vision extend?
You are driving in the right lane on an expressway. Up ahead on the right is an entrance ramp. Before you reach the ramp, what should you do? Why?
You are driving 100km on a freeway. You see ice on the road ahead.
What should you do?
How would you handle this if someone is tailgating?
1. Slow down; if the ball's causing damage, I'd get out of the car and contact authorities. Otherwise, I'd just switch lanes if it's blocking my way and bypass it.--Simple.
2. it's the simplest, most sensible thing to do.
3. 200-300 metres or so.
4. Your own vision.
5. I already answered this.
You should see if there are any cars or trucks entering the expressway and control and adjust your speed to make sure they have room to merge safely, without adversely affecting flow already on the freeway. You SHOULDN'T ignore vehicles entering the roadway or speed up.
You should slow down to a safe speed. If someone were tailgating me, I'd pull to the right if I wasn't already on the right lane to let the vehicle behind me pass. Otherwise, I'd still slow down at a nice and slow rate so the guy behind me doesn't freak out and get in an accident.

a. how long must a ramp be if it reaches a step that is 2 1/4 ft. above the ground???
b. find the minimum amount of cement needed to make a ramp up to a step that is 2 1/4 ft. high??

a) The step is 27 inches above the ground. The ramp extends 12 inches for every inch of rise. The ramp will be 27 x 12 = 324 inches long (27 feet).
b) The remaining side (the base) can be found with a^2 + b^2 = c^2. The ramp (the hypotenuse) is 324", so:
27^2 + b^2 = 324^2
729 + b^2 = 104,976
b^2 = 104247
b = 322.87"
The side of the ramp is a triangle, which has an area of 1/2 * base * height:
.5 * 322.87 * 27 = 4358.745 square inches
Multiply this by the width of the ramp (36 inches):
4358.745 * 36 = 156,914.82 cubic inches of cement
To convert to cubic feet, divide the cubic inches by 12*12*12 (1728):
156,914.82 / 1728 = 90.807 cubic feet of cement
