Electric Wheelchair Battery help getting a wheelchair battery?
I have a senior citizen friend on a VERY low fixed income who does not get around very well, she has an electric wheelchair but the batteries are totally shot. She CANNOT afford to buy them. Does anyone know of any agency out there that will help her free of cost? PS: She lives in Santa Rosa, California.
There are two websites that sell batteries for electric wheelchairs and more. You may need to know more about the manufacturer of your friend's wheelchair to identify the correct battery. Go to www.batteryspec.com and www.thescooterstore.com. Perhaps if you explain about the needy person, a free battery might go to her.

Hello
Perhaps more discussion is necessary here to come up with a reasoned solution rather than a ‘fight’ to resolve the issues. From the information in your question, it appears that this is a temporary problem for you. However, you quite rightly enquire if others with a disability, whether temporary or long-term, have encountered issues that have been resolved.
Universities and colleges must consider support needs of students with disabilities, special needs or medical conditions - the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) sets out requirements around ‘reasonable adjustments’ and ‘Disability Equality Schemes’, for example. Most universities and colleges have disability coordinators or advisers to advise regarding support, arrange assessment of needs and liaise with academic or other staff, if required. Have a look at http://www.ucas.com/students/disabledstudents/ for more information on disability or additional requirements. It’s also worth looking at the Skill (National Bureau for Students with Disabilities) website at http://www.skill.org.uk.
If you don’t already have contact details for the disability adviser at Glamorgan University, see http://dds.glam.ac.uk/ (Disability and Dyslexia Service) and http://dds.glam.ac.uk/temporary/ (information on support for temporary disability, with contact details for the Disability and Dyslexia Adviser). It’s important to contact and/or meet with the disability adviser for discussion and planning for your support needs at this stage of study – appropriate support can only be considered if universities are fully aware of what those needs are.
Should your recovery take longer than anticipated, you may need to consider alternatives to full-time study, even for a limited period; see http://www.ucas.com/students/maturestudents/courses/courseoptions.
I do hope this helps with your query and wish you well in your future study.
