Electric Scooter Motor Upgrades
I have a question regarding dc power applied to electric scooters?
This might seem like a dumb question but I don't know the answer for certain and I want to be sure before I go spending money... I'm a laymen. I have an electric scooter with a 36volt motor which runs on 3 12volt batteries. Now I'm thinking about upgrading to a 48volt motor with a higher watt output. I'm taking a guess here that 3 12volt batteries would be equal to a total of 36volts so that leads me to believe that the total battery voltage must be equal to that required by the motor to run properly correct? So if I do upgrade to a 48volt motor then I'd have to use 4 12volt batteries or one 48volt right? Thanks!
Correct. 4 x 12V batteries. Your problem will be the controller and how (and if) it will handle the extra 33% load. Some modification may/will be required.
