I would like for someone to match up an engine, battery, speed controller, and possibly charger that will fit the bike. Please no snobby remarks I get those far too often. The bike still runs and everything is fine I would just like to be able to experiment with electric power.

custom electric scooter help?
purchased a motor, controller, throttle setup for an electric scooter i a making, and cant get any voltage to the motor through the controller. there are 7 leads/plugs on the controller, 2 heavy guage for the motor and battery, and 5 thinner, labeled brake, brake lights, indicator, power locks, and "To put". none of the others is connected to anything. direct connection to the battery will turn the motor. i want to know if i need to bridge any of the other controller leads, how i can test the throttle and the controller with a multimeter to figure out it they are good, and whether i can bypass the controller and hook the motor and battery to a potentiomer to control the speed.
@ dont panic, that was the first thing i tried. that is where i am stuck. when i hook it up as you describe, nothing happens.
Your controller is not likely correct for your application. Power locks? How about power windows too?
Depending on the current draw of the motor based on it's info plate, you can use MOSFETs as voltage variable resistors that you can control with a small potentiometer. This is close to a circuit I use as an adjustable voltage regulation circuit. While I am a little behind on my blog, I hope to get the circuit up within a few days to 10 days depending on weather.
