Electric Scooter Cars
I have a stripped down electric scooter running on a car battery. It goes reaalllyy slow. How can i fix this?
Originally it ran on two small twelve volt batteries. One wouldn't hold a charge so we (dad and I) took them both out. We eliminated all wires except the two brake lines. Also we made the accelerator handle thingy just a switch (2 speeds. on/off) Then we hooked up a car battery to it but it goes so slow. Fast walking speed. Why? What can we do to increase the speed? Also we've gone through 3 switches/buttons because they start to get really hot and melt. How come? We connected the good small battery to it as well as the car battery but it still runs the same speed. Do we have to connect the batteries in a certain way? How can we make it go faster? Thanks!
The two batteries were connected in series to get 24 volts. You're only feeding 12 volts to a 24 volt motor now. You need two batteries in series.
If you don't know how to wire a starter solenoid to handle the current, just use an old fashioned starter switch. That's the only thing that won't melt under the load.
