Yes. They have a greater potential distance, and easier to re-fuel. The engines don't last as long, but the batteries on the electrics burn out too soon, and are expensive to replace.

X-Treme XB-508 Electric Bicycle / Moped
My Ego electric scooter batteries had to be replaced after 300 hrs. Is your Ego as unreliable? What's wrong?
The motor was working fine. Then, after about 6 miles on a full charge the motor would run to full power from a stop, then suddenly drop back. If I stopped, turned of the motor and started again the same thing would happen. The dealer said the batteries were shot, so he replaced them. I charged the new batteries for two days and only showed 8 bars of power. I rode for about 6 blocks and the power dropped to 4 bars. Then, the power ran out after about 5 miles. I ride this scooter to work about 7.5 miles one-way on fairly flat roads. I only weigh 200 pounds. Is this scooter reliable enough to keep, or should I consider getting a small gas powered scooter instead?
At first it sounded like bad batteries, but the problem persisted even with the battery change. It sounds like a regulation problem.I would say that if the dealer can't recognize the problem, then it would be best to go with gas. Some gas scooters get as much as 90 miles per gallon, plus you don't have to worry about charging if you want to take the scooter somewhere other than work or there is a power outage.
