Easy Lifting Cushion
How can I mend leather?
I drive a 2000 BMW Z3 roadster. Unfortunately, the drop-top isn't electronic, which means that I have to lift it/drop it manually (which is really easy, contrary to popular belief.) One night, I forgot to put the top up, so I kneeled on the passenger seat to reach back in order to grasp the folded up top. The leather ripped right where i was kneeling, leaving vertical gash on the bottom cushion. The leather seems too tough to stitch back together. Is stitching it feasible? or do I need to get the seat reupholstered. Also, the leather is red. Do auto-body shops carry the same shade? probably not? help me.
Well, I'm not sure how thick your leather is. For thin leather, it can simply be stitched like cloth, only it'll be harder. If it's thick, you'll need to get one of those fancy leather punchers, and put a hole in every spot you want to put the thread through.

ceramic tiles on bathroom floor?
my ceramic tiles on bathroom floor are damaged due to getting new bathroom suite fitted. its too much hassle to lift them, i was thinking of putting some good quality cushion floor on top but was told i would need to skim the tiles to make it even for vinyl to be put on top.is it possible to just fill in the joins between the tiles to even them out? or would i need to do whole floor? and what is the best product to use to fill in the gaps, im on a budget so would like to be able to do the job myself if possilble. or does anyone else have a simpler and easier solution the even out flooring which is cheap.
If the tiles are not flat surface tiles they have to come up or float a floor over them. If the tiles are flat you just have to fill the grout lines. Home Depot has leveling compound in the Flooring dept. that comes in a 3lb and 10lb box (and 25lb bag). The 10lb box is about $10. Mix it with water to a tooth paste consistency. Mix a small amount at a time. It starts to set-up in about 15 minutes. Use the flat side of a trowel on a 45* angle to the lines to pull it into the lines (just like if you were grouting). It should dry in about 4 hours. When it dries run a straight edge on the floor to check for low points or peaks. The peaks can be sanded out, but it's easier to get it real close while it's wet. If you have any low points, mix some more and repeat. Finally, when your happy with the way that is you have to seal it. The sealer is a water-like product that can be put on with a paint roller. Depot also sells that for about $6. It's important to seal it if you're going to be gluing anything to the floor.
As a note: what the floor feels like at this point is what your finished floor will feel like. Anything you put on top of it will 'telegraph' through to the finished floor, so make sure it's right before you put your finished floor on it. It's not hard at all, it'll cost about $20 and take an hour or two total. Read the products before you use them.. always a good idea.
