Disabled Wheelchair
Transportation for disabled wheelchair users?
Hello guys!
Does anyone know of any transportation services for people with disabilities,such as myself (I'm a wheelchair user) in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). I know there is ParaTransit,never used it though (I think they charge you and I will need to go to school and back home every day). I have Keystone Mercy Insurance. Maybe there are any other services I don't know about.
Could anyone please suggest something.

Any service you use you will have to pay for. Paratransit is government subsidized and will be your least expensive option. All over the road fixed route transportation systems - that means buses - have to be wheelchair accessible. So you should be able to take paratransit to the closest regular bus stop and then take a regular bus. Paratransit is generally available when the nearest bus stop is more than one half mile away.

Obstacles for disabled wheelchair getting around town
I am disabled (wheelchair) and will be visiting Canada.......?
in June. I am from Chicago and am concerned about wheelchair access around Toronto & Niagara Falls. Also I have a service dog. Will he be welcome in Canada? Thanks

Hi, I live in Toronto I can say that if this is your first time visiting here and In Niagara (as you probably expect) it gets very busy with tourists and traffic can get mad!!! Can't say I know for sure what customs will think about the service dog (if you're travelling by vehicle. Be prepared to pay for parking!), Canadian customs is pretty easy-going though. In Toronto there is wheel chair access on the subway some of the seats fold up to accomodate and strap in a wheel chair, at some of the stops along the subway line there are elevators. The TTC (Toronto Transit Comission) just got allot of brand new buses on the road for wheelchair access. Service dogs are welcome on the busses and subway. The malls, like Eaton Centre and Yorkdale, have elevators..I'm sure the malls will welcome a service dog, I'm sure many places would accept them. As far as accomodation goes there may be certain hotels that will accept a service dog. Also, if you're looking for a good, strong, solid Baptist Church to visit in Toronto come to Toronto Baptist Church we have wheel chair access!
I used to live in the Niagara Region, not Niagara Falls specifically, I don't know how much public transit has changed but when I was working there it wasn't very good. Never recalled seeing a bus! You may need to rely on a taxi van that accomodates wheelchairs. I'm sure they'll have no objection to the service dog and am sure he'll be accepted just about anywhere.
